LIOR Pupillometry is proud to announce that our CEO, Jason Benaim, has won an MDDC Insight to Innovation Discovery Sprint Award from the Medical Device Development Centre — a distinction reserved for healthcare innovators whose ideas show exceptional potential to change patient care.
The MDDC award program identifies and backs healthcare workers who bring rare, firsthand insight into unmet clinical needs. As a Critical Care Paramedic, Jason saw that need every day: in the field, pupil assessment still relies on a penlight and a subjective judgment call — at exactly the moments when an accurate neurological read matters most.
That insight is the foundation of LIOR — a handheld infrared pupillometer designed to provide fast, reliable, and repeatable measurements of pupil response, bringing objective pupil assessment out of the hospital and into the hands of frontline responders. It is precisely this kind of clinician-led innovation the award was created to champion.
“I've spent years as a paramedic, and I know what's at stake in those first minutes,” said Jason. “I'm so excited to bring an innovation to the field I've been part of for so long — one that has the real potential to save lives.”
This recognition from the MDDC places LIOR among a select group of clinician-founded ventures singled out for their potential to transform care. We're grateful to the MDDC for its support, and congratulations to Jason on this well-deserved honor.
